CEF Fall Conference

This year the attendees were treated to a veritable “who’s who” of inspirational Christian speakers and performers. The program began with Keynote speaker Dr. Tod Bolsinger challenging the audience to “Canoe the Mountains” by learning to get out of our comfort zones and be prepared to lead in uncharted territory. The canoeing imagery was in reference to when Lewis and Clark were exploring the great American wilderness with the Corp of Discovery. They were comfortable in their canoes, but when they could canoe no further, they had to make a decision to get out of the boat and soldier on.
While Dr. Bolsinger’s keynote was about getting out of the boat, the next presenter, Mrs. Megan Miessler encouraged everyone to get back in the boat! One of the most basic human needs is the need of understanding. When you are fully engaged with someone, you get in their “boat” and are able to listen and understand them more completely.
Throughout the entire conference, whimsical emcee Don Wharton kept the mood light with his story telling and jokes as well as his musical selections. Continuing the lightheartedness, magician Dana Daniels performed his “No Acts, No Show, No Problem” show and dazzled all those in attendance. Looking around at the audience during his performance there were delighted and happy faces everywhere!
Sunday was a true treat, especially for music lovers, as Keith and Kristyn Getty gave stirring performances of some of their best loved hymns. Keith was joined onstage by the chamber choir of Lutheran High School Northwest from Rochester Hills, MI. They had the once in a lifetime experience of sharing the stage with an internationally known hymn writer and took part in his workshop on shaping modern hymnody. The Getty’s band then lead worship in the closing service with Michigan District President, Rev. Dr. David P.E. Maier preaching.
As another year of the conference comes to a successful close, the hard work of many is evident and appreciated by all the attendees. Thank you to everyone who attended!
